Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program (IPPP)

In IPPP, students will deepen their clinical work and practice applying new theoretical concepts to clinical situations. Through coursework, clinical case seminars, individual consultation and peer experience, clinicians will learn to approach their work from a psychodynamic sensibility.

Who Is It For

The Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program (IPPP) is a practice-oriented training program designed for working clinicians who wish to learn the Interpersonal psychoanalytic perspective.

Curriculum

The IPPP curriculum consists of weekly training comprised of three key elements: discussions of theory, small group case seminars and individual weekly clinical consultation. The 28-week program is comprised of four modules of seven weeks with seven different instructors.

  • Application Information

    Complete the application process for admission online with a $100 application fee. Applications are considered on a rolling basis and also include a personal interview. Applicants are required to carry professional liability insurance and to provide their own psychotherapy patients for consultation. Admission preference is given to New York State licensed mental health professionals whose scope of practice includes private and institutional psychotherapy. Psychotherapists with other educational backgrounds may apply. Familiarity with psychodynamic thinking and personal experience in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis are factors in the admissions process. We strongly recommend that students be in treatment to maximize the benefits of the training program.

  • Eligibility for Matriculation

    Admission preferences will be given to New York State licensed mental health professionals whose licensed “scope of practice” includes the practice of psychotherapy, either privately or in institutional settings. Other therapists possessing a different educational background may also apply.

  • Community Life

    The IPPP program fosters collegiality and involvement in the overall Institute community. During the course of the program, all IPPP students are invited to take part in various activities such as the Institute’s Tuesday morning Clinical Education Meetings, the Psychoanalytic Society Colloquia and ongoing Study Groups (including LGBTQ, Race and Psychoanalysis, Sexual Abuse, and Artists)
