Later Lifespan Development Services
The Later Lifespan Development Service focuses on the issues inherent in the aging process, including the role of society and the impact of aging on individuals, families, and institutions. Personality can change in a positive direction as one grows older. This is not simply a wishful opinion, but a conclusion based on a recent large-scale study. It means that one's later years can be a time for enhanced satisfaction in living. The entire orientation of White Institute Clinical Services supports growth throughout the life cycle. This applies whether treatment is undertaken to resolve current difficulties, to explore one’s past history in greater depth, or to search out possibilities for the future.
Not only does each phase of living offer its own particular opportunities, but certain kinds of problems also are more likely to arise as life progresses. Among the more frequent ones are the readjustments that go along with retirement, the physical infirmities of aging, the loss of a spouse or of friends, financial worries, family conflict, and the prospect of death and dying. Cumulatively, they can contribute to increased loneliness, anxiety, and depression. The staff of the Later Lifespan Development Service can help individuals and family members to thoughtfully reflect upon these and other issues of concern.
