White Society Colloquium: Formulating Black Rage: Surviving Latent and Manifest Destructiveness in Otherness

Dr. Stoute is Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist and Psychoanalyst President, Atlanta Psychoanalytic Society, Atlanta, GA; Training and Supervising Analyst, Emory University Psychoanalytic Institute; Child and Adolescent Supervising Analyst and graduate of The New York Psychoanalytic Institute; Faculty, Southeast Child Analyst Consortium, the Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of the Emory University School of Medicine, and the Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA.
1. Participants will be able to identify three psychoanalytic frameworks for applying the concept of moral injury in understanding the damaging and mitigating effects of racial trauma.
2. Participants will be able to define the concept of black rage, its connection to intergenerational transfer of trauma, and examples of its functional and defensive utility in working with African American patients.
