Preventive Interventions with First Time Parents

The Preventive Interventions with First Time Parents Study Group includes graduates and candidates from all Divisions of the William Alanson White Institute and interested mental health professionals unaffiliated with the Institute. Our mission is to educate group members about psychoanalytically-informed clinical issues and psychotherapy techniques that would help first-time parents develop and maximize their parenting skills. Topics focus on the needs of low risk parents as well as parents with special issues such as a premature baby, conception and birth with help of fertility treatments, adoption and so on. Our monthly meetings include readings, discussions and clinical presentations from group members and outside speakers. Most meetings are open to the mental health community; some are restricted to Study Group members. For additional information, please contact Sheila Feig Brown at 212 876 2275 or 914 834 6212.
