EDCAS Tuesday Morning Conference: Treating Opioid Addiction: What Psychotherapists Need to Know

This presentation describes an individualized client-centered approach to treating opioid addiction that integrates psychotherapeutic and pharmacological interventions. Topics will include an overview of opioid drugs and how they work, the role of adjunctive medications including buprenorphine and naltrexone, and the role of evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches. This presentation will focus on the practical things that office practitioners need to know and do to intervene effectively with opioid using patients.

Washton, Ph.D. is Co-Founder of The Washton Group, a private psychology practice in NYC and Princeton NJ, specializing in the treatment of substance use and other behavioral health problems. His many publications include “Treating Alcohol and Drug Problems in Psychotherapy Practice” (Guilford).
