Psychoanalysis and Uncertainty: Leveraging Histories and the Possibilities of a Good-Enough Life.

Psychologist and Professor C. Jama Adams takes on America's qutestioning of "The good life" in these socio political and economic times. What historically were givens, are today being examined with a skeptical eye, as the sense of losing ground becomes more widespread. These inflection points offer opportunities for a robust and reflective psychoanalysis. Issues such as seeking to be outside of history, mourning the illusion of unfettered autonomy, exploiting the virtues of compromise and re-committing to community and spirituality, will be explored.

C. Jama Adams is an Associate Professor in the Department of Africana Studies at John Jay College. His intellectual interests include ways in which psychoanalytic perspectives can illuminate late capitalism and technology’s impact on individuality, community and the ethical pursuit of life goals.
