Please join us as Jenny Kaufmann, Ph.D. supervises the clinical work of Suzanne Mallouk, MD.  In addition, Cynthia Field, Ph.D. will highlight the White Institute’s training programs and its award-winning clinic.  Vladan Novakovic, MD, a senior candidate, will describe his experience in the training program.


Cynthia Field, Ph.D. is the Director of Outreach & Recruitment at the White Institute.  In addition, she serves as a Fellow, a Supervisor of Psychotherapy and teaches in the Institute’s Postdoctoral Fellowship.  A recipient of the White Institute’s Director’s Award for service to the community, she has worked on numerous committees and is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the Institute’s newly established Public Mental Health Think Tank.  She is an Adjunct Professor at John Jay College and Fordham University and has published articles on aspects of attachment theory and the mechanisms of action (and inaction) in psychotherapy. Dr. Field is in full time private practice on the Upper West Side.


Jenny Kahn Kaufmann, Ph.D. is a Training & Supervising Analyst at the White Institute and teaches in the adult psychoanalytic training program (Division I), the intensive psychoanalytic psychotherapy program (IPPP) and in the Postdoctoral Program. In addition, she is a member of the Recruitment & Outreach Committee, the Committee on Appointments & Promotions and the Institute’s Public Mental Health Think Tank steering committee.  She is an Associate Editor at Contemporary Psychoanalysis.  Dr. Kaufmann supervises and teaches at hospitals and other organizations throughout New York.  She has published articles and book chapters on topics ranging from the identity development of beginning therapists, the essentialness of witnessing in psychoanalytic treatment, defensive idealization, and working with patients who have suffered from early, developmental trauma. Dr. Kaufmann maintains a private practice in the Nomad/Flatiron District of Manhattan.


Suzanne Mallouk, M.D. is a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a candidate in Psychoanalysis at the William Alanson White Institute. She completed her residency in psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center. Previously, she was the director of Transitional Living at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, CT. She moved on to public psychiatry and worked with the homeless at Project Renewal and at the Institute for Community Living. Dr. Mallouk's last institutional position was in an outpatient clinic at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. She is currently in full time private practice on the Upper West Side. She is trained in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy and completed the White Institute’s Intensive Program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.  Dr. Mallouk has taught and supervised psychiatry residents at Bronx Lebanon and is currently serves in that capacity at Mount Sinai West - St. Luke’s Hospital.
