SEXUAL
ABUSE CLINICAL SERVICE AT THE WHITE INSTITUTE
Incest and
other forms of childhood sexual abuse profoundly affect a child’s
development into adulthood. Our society has only recently begun
to acknowledge the widespread occurrence of such abuse. Girls
and boys in sexually abusive situations may become withdrawn,
aggressive, fearful or
begin to fail in school. Adults with histories of childhood sexual
abuse may have severe difficulties in relationships, be isolated
or depressed, feel easily taken advantage of, or worry about becoming
abusive themselves. They may be unsure whether their memories
of abuse are accurate, and may have other problems with memory.
The crucial role of interpersonal relationships in psychological
functioning has been emphasized by the William Alanson White Institute
of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychology for over fifty years.
The Institute’s Sexual Abuse Clinical Service offers interpersonal
psychoanalytic psychotherapy to women, men, adolescents, boys,
and girls whose lives have been affected by sexual abuse.

How
to apply for treatment |
To arrange for treatment, call or write for an application. You
can then send your completed application to the address listed below,
and you will be contacted as soon as possible, usually within a
week. All materials will be kept in strictest confidence. Insurance
coverage is accepted when applicable, and fees are set on a sliding
scale for out of pocket expenses, making our services generally
more affordable than private practice. Every effort will be made
to provide treatment best suited to the needs of the applicant.
Not everyone who applies can be accommodated, nor will the Institute’s
services be appropriate for every applicant. In such cases, the
Sexual Abuse Clinical Service will make every effort to refer the
applicant to an appropriate place for treatment.
