Psychotherapy Services

Beginning psychotherapy is a big step. Since there are dozens of types of therapies available, the consumer often does not know how to choose the type of therapy or therapist. The WAWI clinic has been operating for over fifty years as a reduced fee clinic and we treat a wide range of issues. We treat patients in once or twice weekly psychotherapy in our clinic as well as three-four times per week in our psychoanalytic clinic (see web page description for analytic clinic). To help you decide we offer an initial consultation and evaluation to determine the best fit of therapist and patient. Our therapists help people with a variety of problems: anxiety, depression, self-image, inhibitions, relationship conflicts, identity concerns, career problems, etc. Our therapists also can work with you to look beyond your immediate problem to determine if you have personality issues that lead you into situations that create crisis or symptoms. We understand that many of our patients have individual issues that are not easily categorized and would need to be assessed in our initial consultation. Because we are an outpatient facility we are unable to offer emergency/crisis intervention or complicated medication coverage.

To set up an initial interview and assessment please call the clinic administrator at 212-873-7070 for an application. You may also stop at the institute for an application. Once the application is returned to the clinic a therapist will usually call you within 2-3 days. We are open M-F 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM. You and the therapist will set a fee that fits your financial situation based on you out of pocket expenses beyond your insurance coverage (if you have any). The clinic may also refer you to an Institute graduate from one of our special referral services if needed. If you have any further questions please feel free to call the clinic administrator at the above number, the Chief Intake coordinator Sue Sarlin at 212-873-0725 x22. Since we seek to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and privacy, please feel free to call us if you have any questions about your treatment needs.
