The HIV Referral Program was established in response
to the AIDS epidemic, the most serious public health crisis of our
time, which poses challenges to the physical and mental well-being
of every member of society. The HIV Clinical Referral Service offers
psychotherapy to people whose lives have been altered by HIV. This
includes people with HIV and AIDS, their partners, family, friends
and caretakers, and people with concerns related to HIV. Individual,
couples, group and family therapy are offered, as well as training
for professionals and research.
As one of the most serious public health crises of our time, AIDS
challenges the physical and mental well-being of every member of society.
The White Institute's HIV Clinical Referral Service provides affordable
psychotherapy to people whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS,
and related education for mental health professionals.
The White Institute's HIV Clinical Referral Service offers affordable,
high quality psychotherapy for people living with AIDS and HIV, their
partners, families, friends, caregivers, and the bereaved. We offer
individual and group psychotherapy. Therapy groups are available for
people who share similar concerns, including gay men with AIDS; bereaved
gay men; women with AIDS; partners, parents and other relatives of
people with AIDS (PWAs); children and youth with HIV concerns, including
children of PWAs. Some groups are bilingual (English-Spanish). All
therapy is provided by experienced, licensed psychologists and psychiatrists
who have had special training in HIV and AIDS issues. We welcome women,
men and young people of diverse backgrounds, ages, ethnicities and
lifestyles to call us.
Please call Ms. Leila Sosa at 212 873-0725, ext 25., to arrange a first appointment or request more information.

Fees for therapy are set according to a sliding scale, the
type of therapy and patient need. We also accept many insurance plans.
Research
Like many AIDS treatment providers, we conduct research to
evaluate and improve the quality of care. Research deepens our understanding
of the mental health needs of people with AIDS/HIV and those who care
for and about them, and thus enhances therapy. Confidentiality is
strictly protected.
Clinical Conferences
The HIV Clinical Service holds bi-monthly meetings for mental
health professionals working with people affected by AIDS and HIV.
Participants in these meetings, led by members of the HIV Clinical
Service, discuss clinical and theoretical issues related to AIDS and
HIV. If you are a mental health professional and wish to learn more
about participating in this program, please call Dr. Mark Blechner
at 212-873-0725, ext. 902.
